The Study of Female Postgraduate Career Development base on Social Cognitive Theory

There have been few researches on social cognition on Taiwanese females. The topics of female business start-up and the female empirical research on social cognition are the principle areas for recent researches. Lent, Brown & Hackett (1994) proposed the social cognitive career theory, which addresses the relationship between individual expectation to capability and career, target selection, and current representation. This research is base on the social cognitive theory and discusses the correlation between female postgraduates in the Research Institution, in universities of science and technology and their future career development. It examines female traits for carrying out development and career plans and their future organization. The goal is to cultivate the optimal human resource and devote it to society and progress. The research sample was 359 female postgraduates in science and technology universities in Taiwan, who were given a questionnaire survey. Pearson Correlation and stepwise multi-regression analyzed the data. The research discovered that career development has a significant positive correlation to social cognition, and the perspectives of self-efficiency, outcome expectation, and individual target all have a significant positive correlation to career. However, perspective of outcome expectation does not achieve significant correlation with social cognition. The research has value preference for both academic and professional practice.
